Gerald Lay

Gerald C. Lay, 82, of Lancaster, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 at VA Medical Center in Lexington. Born Thursday, July 06, 1939 in Garrard County to the late Arnold & Cleo Litton Lay. He is preceded in death by two brothers Maynard Lay, and James Lay, sister; Ruth Huffman.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Wanda Ellis Lay, of Lancaster, two daughters; Pamela (David) East, of Lancaster, Diana (John) East, of Lancaster, son; James Keith Lay, of Lancaster, sister, Carol (Donnie) Hasty, of Garrard County: brother, Bill (Betty) Lay, of Danville, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was a United States Army veteran who loved his country and had great respect for all service men and women. He was of the Baptist faith. Gerald was retired from R.R. Donnelly and enjoyed farming, raising huge gardens & riding his Goldwing.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home with Bro. Grant Hardwick officiating and burial following at Lancaster Cemetery with full military honors by Caswell Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion. Pallbearers include Justin Hale, Tyler East, Todd Lay, David East, John East & Willie Clark. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions go to any and all veteran organizations in Gerald’s honor.
