Matthew Whirls, 60, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. Born Friday, November 17, 1961 in Lexington, he was a son of the late Oscar & Rodonna Rader Whirls. He was a former irrigation worker. Matthew was a member of the High Bridge Historical Society, an avid artist, guitar player, and arrowhead and fossil hunter. He enjoyed antiques, genealogy, and history. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his twin brother, Mark Whirls.
Survivors include his wife, Gisela Diaz Whirls, of Lancaster; sons, Luke Whirls, of Lancaster, and Caleb (Winter) Whirls, of Stanford; daughters, Holly Williams, and Bonnie Whirls, both of Lancaster; brother, Michael (June) Whirls, of Stanford, Glen (Rhonda) Whirls, of Okeechobee, FL, sister-in-law, Connie (the late Mark) Whirls, of Okeechobee, FL; sister, Kelly (Robert “Bobby”) Schaeffer, of Lake Placid, FL; grandchildren, Seth, Hailey, Zachary, and Leah Williams, Lilly, Nathan, and Evan Owens, Sophia, Pearl, and Julianna Whirls; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home with Michael Whirls officiating and burial following at Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers include Michael Newton, Adam Williams, Seth Williams, Robert “Bobby” Schaeffer, Matt-Matt Williams, and Caleb Whirls. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until service time on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home.
