Oneida Whittaker Black, 86, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023 at Landmark of Lancaster. She was born June 5, 1937 in Garrard County to the late Herbert & Jennie Carter Whittaker. Oneida had been an employee of Chevrolet Garage and had been an employee of the The Central Record newspaper for 46 years until her retirement in 2020, a farmer, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Black, a son, Jefferey Lee Black, a grandson, Jared Grubbs, a sister, Geneva Whittaker Ray, and four brothers, Lewis, Gibson, Dariel & Orville Whittaker.
She leaves behind two daughters, Jennifer (Randy) Grubbs of Lancaster, Janilyn (Mark) Henderson of Stanford, eight grandchildren, Brandy Poynter, Jamie Handley, Haley Cloyd, Hagen Black, Levi Henderson, Riley Henderson, Gage Henderson, Raegan Henderson, ten great grandchildren, Trayce Poynter, Jaghyr Wood, Pearce Molen, Trinity Teater, Arianna Black, Gabby Black, Dylan Handley, Rowan Cloyd, Oakley Black, Emerson Black, as well as one great great grandchild, Grayson Teater.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home by Rev. Mike Denny & Rev. Vola Brown. Visitation will be from 6—9 PM Wednesday, July 12, 2023. Burial will take place in Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Grubbs, Mark Henderson, Trayce Poynter, Levi Henderson, Gage Henderson, Bobby Tudor, Ralph Ray Burnside, Kenny Black, Dariel Lee Whittaker, & Hagen Black. Honorary bearers will be Jaghyr Wood, Pearce Molen, & Dylan Handley. In lieu of flowers, contributions may go to the Alzheimer’s Association or National Kidney Foundation.
