Ruth Denny Obituary

Ruth McQuerry Denny, 85, of Lancaster, Kentucky passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 30, 2023. She is survived by her daughter, Jill Stevens (Mike) of Lancaster, her sisters, Phyllis Henderson of Winchester and Mary Ann Bolton of Lancaster, and her grandsons, Will Stevens (Joanna) of Lancaster and Drew Stevens (Jennifer) of Winchester. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Billy Denny, and her parents, John and Laura McQuerry.

Ruth was born on October 28, 1937 in the community of Paint Lick. She was a 1956 graduate of Paint Lick High School and attended Berea College and Eastern Kentucky University. She married Billy on Valentine’s Day in 1959. Ruth loved serving the children of her community throughout her life. She taught kindergarten for many years at Lancaster Baptist Church. She continued in the teaching profession, serving as an interim teacher, substitute teacher, and teacher’s assistant at Lancaster Elementary School.

Ruth loved her family dearly, supporting their every endeavor. She spent countless hours at sporting events, first following Billy, then Jill, and finally Will and Drew. She loved going on family beach vacations each summer, watching every Cincinnati Reds game, relaxing at the Dix River Country Club pool, cooking family dinners, and walking thousands of miles around Merriwood Estates with Billy over the years. Ruth was a faithful member of Lancaster Baptist Church and always looked forward to catching up with her friends in Sunday School.
